HEBREW HOME FOR THE AGED AT RIVERDALE
Location: RIVERDALE, NY
Size: 7,500 SF
As part of a larger, on-going, campus-wide renovation, TPD Architecture transformed a dimly lit, uninviting staff Cafeteria and Servery at The Hebrew Home for The Aged (HHA) in Riverdale, NY. HHA is dedicated to providing quality environments for both residents and staff alike.
The newly designed cafeteria is warm, inviting, filled with natural light and provides a pleasant respite for staff. TPDA designed a “Mondrian inspired”, multi-colored glass and wood-framed millwork partition creating an attractive separation between the larger kosher-food-only dining area from a smaller non-kosher food dining area allowing light and air to filter through. Custom cherry wood banquettes were designed along the perimeter walls and are durable and easy to maintain. Tables and chairs are flexible for multi-gang groupings; lighting comes from multiple sources including skylights and cove lighting, and the creative use of color reinvigorates the space. New finishes were applied to the floors and walls and custom designed millwork pieces were added throughout.
