Gurwin Healthcare System is an award winning leader in elder care, providing the finest quality of care for the growing aging population on Long Island. Their facilities include assisted living, skilled nursing care, rehabilitation, dementia care, adult day care, independent living and dialysis. TPD Architecture was hired to reimagine the existing lobby and transform it into a one-of-a-kind experience that will welcome each resident and visitor of the facility upon entering. The programming of the project areas involved close cooperation with the Board of Directors and one of the main goals was to design a space with a hospitality feel that will create a lasting first impression to everyone. A new branded café, adjacent gift shop and new ADA compliant bathroom facilities will complement the services of the new lobby. The first completed phase of the project is the café.

Rich textures, colors and warm, light and medium colored woods will add new life to the existing curved glass ceiling and beautiful brick walls. Serene blues, beiges and hints of cognac dominate the carefully selected color palette to create a modern, relaxing setting to socialize, relax and spend time in. Focal points of the new lobby will be an interactive donor wall and a curved see-through room divider. Individual seating vignettes are defined by rich, plush carpeted areas. Oversized, vibrantly colored, silky pendants above the lounge areas will provide intimate settings to gather and enjoy life.
